[05-09-2025] Our Consultant for Africa, Agu Uchechukwu Godstime, the new president of Suriname, Ms. Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, confirmed her intention to appoint The Pintus Group LLC to manage humanitarian aid and resource exploitation with the aim of providing financing to local entrepreneurs with the goal of developing the country.
A Dutch colony until just 50 years ago, Suriname is the least populated country in South America, but it is nevertheless one of the richest in natural resources. Its economy depends largely on the extraction and export of bauxite and aluminum (both accounting for 15% of total GDP), as well as the production of rice, bananas, and shrimp. In recent years, Suriname has also focused its efforts on exploiting its large oil reserves, with current production at around 17,000 barrels per day, according to data from Worldometer, a benchmark for estimates and statistics. But, as if that were not enough, the South American country has recently attracted worldwide attention with a geological discovery that is as unexpected as it is promising: a high-grade gold deposit in the heart of the Guiana Shield, one of the oldest geological structures on Earth, with thousands of tons of minerals to be explored, stretching across Suriname, Guyana, French Guiana, Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil. The discovery is therefore of great significance for two fundamental reasons. The first is the opportunity it offers Suriname to boost its economy; although it already has significant gold reserves, this discovery could represent the definitive leap forward as one of the leading countries in the sector at an international level. Even more so if we consider the second reason: the gold found is not just any gold, but contains a concentration much higher than the world average, more precisely 11.88 grams per ton, when the norm for open-pit mines is not to exceed 2 g/t.
